Full Cactus Nursery Reveal
Our Cactus Nursery is getting all the love and we love it too!
I started seeing Llamas as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my third baby and started immediately praying I was having a girl! A year later, cactus and llamas are EVERYWHERE. I hope it´s a trend that stays around awhile - I love it! Thank goodness my wish came true and we found out we were having a girl at 10 weeks.
I´ve always been a person who finds one or two things I can´t live without and then designs around them. I first fell in love with the plush alpacas I found on Etsy from Hola Vicu. They stole my heart instantly. Then I found the Lucca Cactus Wall Decals from Project Nursery browsing the net for all the baby things on a restless pregnant night. I loved the idea of mixing the very feminine floral cacti with the more fun aspect of the llamas.
I definitely wanted a laid-back Boho vibe that was super comfortable and fun at the same time. I wanted ALL the pink and knew it would be over the top girly. Where else can you be super extra besides in a kids room?! I had been eyeing the crib and white dresser at Pottery Barn for awhile and wanted to keep the furniture, shelving, and accessories all neutral for the most part so the wall decals would be the main attraction. I really love the light natural wood tones in the crib and the drawer pulls. It was easy to coordinate all the baskets and planters matching this tone.
I found this jute rug around the same time I saw the chandelier and was so in love with how they complimented each other and added major Boho feels. I have a SERIOUS crush on this chandelier!! It also comes in blush ya´ll!!! The rug is huge. It would normally be too large for this room, but our whole main level has a very weathered barnwood laminate flooring so I wanted to cover as much of it as possible.
My all neutral furniture plan was thrown out the window when I saw the Rosalie dresser in blush at Pottery Barn. It is so beautiful I couldn´t resist! It´s a very pale shade and will grow with her in any room. The antiqued bronze pulls are so pretty and lent well to the gold in the chandelier. I wanted to add a little bling to all the soft pale pink. The mirror, large gold shelf, and swinging arm lamp were just enough to glam up the space!
I searched a long time for the perfect rocker for this room. The glider we have in my son´s room works for me, but my husband has never found it to be comfortable. I originally wanted a glider, but after reading all the reviews on the blush velvet Sleepy Time Rocker from Nursery Works LA, decided to order it and give it a whirl. It did not disappoint! It´s so soft. The seat is deep, it rocks nice and smooth, and the back hits at the perfect height to rest your head back and relax. (I´m 5´5¨) It´s also wide enough for me to sit with both babies comfortably. It spot cleans like a dream, which is SO important with a 19-month-old boy running around. Can you say peanut butter?!? I swear he has peanut butter on his hands at all times.
The number one question I get about this room is about the velvet drapes. I can´t remember where I first saw them, but once I had the rocker I knew I really wanted to do velvet on the window also. And yes, they are hard to find! I got mine on amazon; they were back-ordered, not Prime, and took awhile to get, but SO worth it! I found similar (if not the same) here.
My favorite little corner of the nursery is definitely the book nook! I knew my hands were going to be so full with these two being just over 16 months apart. My little guy loves to read, so I wanted to create a comfortable spot for him to hang out and entertain himself while I nursed and spent time cuddling baby girl. A ton of floor pillows, the stuffed llamas, and book shelves he can reach himself added a space that he naturally gravitated towards. I found a little bucket at Hobby Lobby with llamas on it that I filled with a few of his trains and small dinosaurs. (Baby Sister agreed to let him have just a few ¨guy things¨ in her pink palace) Adding the fun tassel garland and llama head above the shelving makes it clear that this is the playful spot in the room.
From there it was just all in the details! I added as much faux greenery as I could and also bought a few plants. I am notoriously a black thumb and didn´t want to spend a ton of money on plants just in case they only lasted a week. I also couldn´t find cactus plants or an aloe vera plant locally, so I started searching online. I ended up ordering all my plants from Amazon. Wasn´t sure how shipping plants would go, but they all showed up in great shape and I´ve managed to keep them all alive!! Side note: I live in a small town in MT. We have no Homegoods, no Ikea, no Trader Joes, no anything really. Itś a rough life. Thus I have become THE Queen of online shopping! I can find anything! Truly - it´s a gift. One my Husband wishes I didn´t possess. :-) I will try anything online once, including plants!!
After lots of greenery it was just all about the llamas! Found so many cute things looking on Etsy. I love shopping small businesses and supporting creative people. It also allows you to find unique things and customize them to you and your space. I am in love with her mobile and the sweet llama wall hanging. And of course the gorgeous handmade name sign! I hot glued a few cacti to it just to be more ¨extra¨ and am so obsessed with it.
More gold, more pink, and one sweet picture of her Nana (who´s in Heaven), as a little girl, and the nursery of my dreams came to be!
